Opportunity Description
Are you passionate about autism advocacy and creating more inclusive education for students? Autism Ontario is looking for a dedicated volunteer to serve as a Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) Representative or Alternate with a local school board in the Hamilton community.
In this role, you’ll bring the voice and perspective of Autism Ontario to important conversations about special education and help advocate for positive change for autistic students and their families.
What You’ll Do
- Represent Autism Ontario and advocate for its mission within the community.
- Participate in SEAC meetings and contribute to discussions about special education.
- Advocate for the needs of autistic students and their families.
- Maintain communication with Autism Ontario’s local Parent & Family Engagement Committee (PFEC).
- Collaborate respectfully with school board and community partners.
- Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism, dependability, and punctuality.
Time Commitment
Ongoing volunteer commitment, including attendance at scheduled SEAC meetings, preparation, communication with Autism Ontario, and occasional training or information sessions.
Specific meeting schedules and time commitments will vary by school board.
Who Can Apply?
Applicants must:
- Be 18 years of age or older and a Canadian citizen.
- Reside within the school board’s jurisdiction.
- Be qualified as a public school elector for that school board.
- Not be an employee of the school board.
- Not have been convicted of an indictable criminal offence.
- Be a member of Autism Ontario.
